A 2017 kernel processor benchmark test compared a John Deere KP chromed roll with an aftermarket competitor to reveal that the John Deere roll shaft hardness is 40% higher and that the tooth hardness of the John Deere roll was almost double that of the competitor.

A smooth crop mat doesn’t just mean better silage quality; it also shows that your feed rolls are working efficiently. That’s essential for your productivity and profitability.
The replaceable wear bars on the upper and lower feed rolls are easy to exchange. Use the serrated or smooth side of the bar to match your crop condition. EXPERT TIP: double the wear life by simply reversing the wear bars, saving you thousands throughout the life of your machine.
Original John Deere Feed Rolls, Wear Bars and Bolts are made from heavy-duty, induction- hardened stainless steel to help maximise uptime. John Deere wear-resistant feed rolls are completely demagnetized, so they won’t false-trip the metal detector.

Shearbars – or stationary knives – are the other half of the chopping mechanism. They are critical to the effective performance of the cutterhead, as they provide a fixed platform against which to cut the crop.
Last added to our portfolio: The Dura Line™ corn shearbar. Larger coating and top coating to guarantee excellent quality of cut and up to four times longer lifetime than the standard corn shearbar.
For 8000 and 9000 Series, the entire shearbar assembly pivots toward the cutterhead drum, ensuring a constant optimum cutting gap of 0.2-0.4 mm. The simplified shearbar system gives knives more room, so they can have wider coatings and makes shearbar adjustments easier.

The wearlife of a knife is directly related to the width of the coating on the chopping edge. Compared to the 7080 Series, the 8000 and 9000 Series have 41% wider coating on maize knives and 33% on grass knives. This improves durability and reduces wear- saving you money on maintenance and fuel costs.
Use alignment tools HXE126431 and HXE126432 in the SPFH tool compartment. Always fasten the knives with original bolts and don’t overtighten them (260-230-260 Nm).
Original John Deere knives feature a tough tungsten carbide coating for high-quality cutting, longer wear life, and lower engine power demands. These knives stay sharper, for longer.

Blower paddles help elevate the crop the more than 4m between the accelerator exit and the spout end, overcoming the friction along the transition and spout liners.
Change paddles regularly to ensure proper ejection from the spout flap.
There is a special tool stored in the toolbox to check paddle/liner settings. Basic gap setting is: MAIZE: 1.5 mm (+/-0.5 mm) GRASS: 3 mm (+/-0.5 mm).
